Emily E. Hensley, APRN

Emily Hensley has dedicated more than two decades to the healthcare field, beginning her career as a registered nurse and gaining extensive experience in a variety of demanding clinical settings, including the ICU, emergency room, and as a flight nurse. She has practiced as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner since 2013. In January 2020, Emily took a leap of faith and opened her own private practice, New Hope Psychiatry, with the goal of providing compassionate, individualized mental health care to the communities she serves.

Emily earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2001 and her Master of Science in Nursing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2013. Her clinical practice includes psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and psychotherapy for patients across the lifespan, including children, adolescents, and adults. She has experience evaluating and treating a wide range of mental health concerns, including more complex and serious psychiatric conditions.

Emily takes a thoughtful and conservative approach to psychiatric prescribing. She believes that medication should be used purposefully and that more medications do not necessarily mean better treatment. She takes pride in helping patients identify medications that are truly necessary and beneficial, while also helping patients safely reduce or discontinue medications that may no longer be needed when clinically appropriate. Her goal is to find the right treatment approach for each individual rather than simply adding medications, with careful consideration given to the patient's overall health, quality of life, and long-term well-being.

Emily is passionate about serving the citizens of Kearney and Buffalo County, as well as individuals and families throughout Central Nebraska and North Central Kansas. She considers it a privilege to be part of her patients' mental health journeys and strives to provide care that is compassionate, individualized, and focused on helping each person achieve greater stability, wellness, and quality of life.
